Sex. Tattoos. Film.

Model: Sash Suicide.

Last week we talked about setting. This week we’re gonna take a brief look at lighting. The first picture shows us Nature as a bright, vibrant place, whereas the second brings us a slightly darker and less inviting version of Nature. How is this done? By using light to enhance or downplay the brightness of the scene, which naturally reminds you of the sun and certain times of day. But different lighting styles can also bring up associations that have nothing to do with natural light, such as film noir or comic books. Lighting can even remind us of certain emotions (soft, diffused lighting, for example, can convey feelings of love and romance).

Next week, we’ll finish our exploration of erotic form with a look at composition.
